Designers & Coffee
Community Member / Volunteer
Designers & Coffee is a community-driven organization for product designers, founded by Toronto-based product designer Dorsa Giyahi. The group's primary mission is to bring together digital designers from across the industry to learn, collaborate, and grow their skills in an inclusive environment.
Key aspects of the community include:
Diverse Membership: The group welcomes everyone from novices and career-switchers just starting out in UX/UI design to seasoned industry professionals.
Skill-Building Events: They regularly host a mix of in-person and virtual events, including UX workshops, hands-on group design challenges, and design feedback sessions.
Networking and Mentorship: The community provides opportunities to connect with peers and mentors through networking socials and informal Instagram LIVE chats featuring industry experts.
Designers & Coffee wanted to address the need for new members getting into the UX UI design space. Users could vote and collaborate on projects and use the produced outcomes for their portfolios.
As a participant in past hackathons, I offered my skills in early usability testing, and design critiques & feedback early in the platform’s development.
This project has since been paused until further notice.
Design Challenge Platform
Username field: Should it be prefilled with “name@domain.com”?
Deadline: I understand “green” means the user can still submit, and the challenge is open. Should the colour change to “yellow” as a warning when you have “2 days left to submit”? Afterwards, when the submission is closed, you can put the status to “red”.
Things to consider: If I go back to my member profile, create a section called “Challenges Created”. There, I can view my approved challenge or edit information that’s now publicly available to members.
Roomie - UI Case Study
Roomie is a service aimed to help millennials find the perfect roommate. The user would provide key information and fill out a personal questionnaire. This project was developed during a Designers & Coffee Design Challenge Meetup.
