The latest trend in Hollywood is to make up events from factious dates created in film. There’s Star Wars “May the 4th”, last year’s Back To The Future’s October 21, 2015 (Marty McFly goes to the future. Now it’s Ridley Scott’s Alien is getting a holiday courtesy of 20th Century Fox. Based on the fictional moon LV-426, today April 26, 2016 we celebrate Alien.
I get the reasoning behind these made up events, but what are they trying to really hype us for? Alien is known for it’s movies FIRST. Not the games, not the comics, not the Reeboks, not the toys. So with Alien Day I was expecting a teaser trailer for at least Neil Blomkamp’s Alien 5 or Ridley Scott’s Prometheus 2 aka. Alien: The Covenant. Neither one was released which was really disappointed.
What Alien Day did do well was rekindle my nostalgia for the film franchise. I decided to paint this collage of a xenomorph opening up its mouth, exposing Sigourney Weaver’s Ripley in her space suit, over an alien facehugger egg.
