The 5 Sides of Pickering

Pickering local artist Jason A. Das created five different scenes from Pickering that will be installed as a wrap on the electrical box by Pickering Fire Services Headquarters and Station No.1 at 1700 Zents Drive. Each work incorporates wild life wearing fire services hats which pays tribute to fire services. This pilot project was unveiled as part of the Fire Hall opening on Sunday, June 11.

About the Artwork

Over the years I’ve always done my work on one piece of canvas. When I was presented with the opportunity to develop and create a public art piece encompassing five surfaces, I was literally thinking outside the box. With the power transformer’s shape, I approached it as a way to showcase five key areas that make Pickering instinctive. Each environment is vividly illustrated and populated with local wildlife pertaining to those areas. We have Esplanade Park’s gazebo with rabbits and squirrels scurrying around. Northern farming fields with cows grazing. Duffin’s Creek flows through Pickering with raccoons hiding along the trails. Our waterfront showcasing Millennium Square near Frenchman’s Bay. With marshlands inhabited by the Great Blue Herons. Finally, a blue clear sky with a flock of Canadian geese flying by. All the wildlife are wearing fire helmets as a nod to the men and women of Pickering Fire Services, for keeping our community safe.

About the Artist

Jason A. Das is a graphic designer & illustrator based out of Pickering, Ontario. Jason is a graduate of the Sheridan College Arts Fundamentals program, as well as George Brown College’s Graphic Design / Advertising program. Over the years, Jason has enjoyed working with clients in various industries, including e-commerce, fashion, retail, information technology, and conferences & tradeshows. Jason’s work has come in the form of logo designs, t-shirt illustrations, comic & character designs, children’s book illustrations, caricatures, and digital illustrations. Recently Jason has made the jump to user experience design to apply his design knowledge to the growing world of product design and the video game industry. Jason’s most recent accomplishments have been his work with the City of Pickering’s Community Banners Program. Jason served as a volunteer with the 3D Printing Taskforce, where he and local 3D printing industry leaders and hobbyists printed PPEs for healthcare workers during Covid. Jason also shares love and curiosity for all things animation. Whether it be 2D, 3D, VFX, AR & VR technology.
