2D Animation in Procreate

On Saturday December 17 I got the chance to participate in a workshop with artist Aaron Blaise. Aaron is a well know animator with an extensive career spending time at Disney Animation Studios. I have taken and bought many of Aaron’s animation tutorials from his website.

As someone who has been working more with Procreate, I was ecstatic that Aaron was going to demonstrate how to create 2D animation using Procreate. We participated in 4 demonstrations and I created animated shots. Below are my 4 shots I created during the workshop along with Aaron.

Squash and Stretch Sequence of Ball

Flour Sack vs The Apple Sequence

Bear Walking Rough Sequence

Bear Attempting To Lift A Rock Sequence

I’m amazed at what I was able to accomplish in roughly 5 hours. It’s rejuvenated my confidence to keep practicing more in 2D animation. Procreate’s simple interface and tools have lowered my hesitation to experiment more. I need to study more on the principles of animation as my in-between framing and sense of timing is still off.

I plan to do more spot animations and maybe add them throw my website.
