I’ve Fallen Down The Lottie Rabbit Hole

I did not know about the dot Lottie file format. I thought people were creating these simple illustrations animated using Adobe After Effects. In the majority of cases, that was happening. However, the simplicity of the output wrapped in Javascript (JSON) and SVG, was all new to me.

So when my friends at Designers & Coffee hosted a workshop with LottieFiles, I was immediately sucked in. This is something that could bridge my appreciation for animation to product design. Looking at all the possibilities of what you can create in Lottie format was remarkable. Right now I’m in an experimenting phase with their export of the Figma to Lottie plugin. I might need to get back to learning more about After Effects. That’s another thing I will comment on in a later post.

It’s given me more confidence to create a section of my website focused on my animation work. With the demand for motion graphics and web animations, I want to explore this space. It can be another niche that will take notice of me.

I plan to keep posting my progress with Lottie files here on my website.
